Honda to recall 8,532 units of 2007 City in India
Premium car manufacturer Honda Siel Cars India (HSCI) said as part of a global recall by the parent firm the company will recall 8,532 units of its largest selling model the second generation City in the country due to defective power window switches .
The vehicles, which have been recalled, were manufactured in 2007, a company official said.
However, the 3rd Generation City, currently sold in India, is not affected and does not require any part replacement, he added.
‘HSCI is proactively replacing the part in these vehicles related to the potential problem of smoke coming out from the Power Window Switch if water enters the driver window when window is left open during heavy rain or is exposed to any other liquid due to spillage,’ a company statement said.
The replacement would be carried out free of cost and the company will communicate directly with the owners of the cars which are covered under this part replacement, it added.
The company’s step in India is part of a vehicle recall by Honda in North America, Europe, Asia and other regions after three cases of fire were reports in the US and South Africa.
However, HSCI said the recall will not affect its hatchback the Jazz sold in India as the model belongs to the second generation and was launched in the country in 2009.
It is the first generation Jazz that has been recalled in other markets of the world.
Yesterday, the Japanese auto giant had announced a global recall of 6.46 lakh units of City and Jazz models after reports of defective power window switches.
