The Supreme Court today transferred the criminal case pending against Narmada Bachao Andolan leader Medha Patkar and others from Gujarat to Patiala House Courts in New Delhi.

A Bench headed by Justice B Sudarshan Reddy ordered the transfer of the case on the petition filed by Medha Patkar seeking transfer of the case from Gujarat alleging that free and fair trial in the case was not possible in Gujarat since the petitioner has been leading a campaign against Sardar Sarovar Dam project in Gujarat and the local administration is biased against her.

Ms Patkar has been demanding the rehabilitating of the oustees whose land have come within the submergence zone due to the construction of the dam.
